FAQ
Let us try to remove some of the barriers that have been keeping you from learning
how to dance. Listed below are a few of the questions that we hear most often from
new students.
I have wanted to learn how to dance for a long time, how do
I start?
This is the simplest of questions, just come in and let us show
you how simple dancing really is. We have been teaching longer than anyone in the
business. We have a program that will meet your needs and allow you to learn at
your own pace. Our instructors have been specially trained to assist the new dancer.
Our method of training is geared toward your needs and interests. By using a combination
of group lessons, private lessons and practice parties, our teaching system has
proven to be successful.
Once I begin, how long will it take to learn how to dance?
This is up to you, your rate of advancement is dependent on a
number of factors. We can show you the basics in a number of dances or we can work
on a specialized dance that you want to learn. It is up to you.
I am single and I do not have a partner, what do I do?
If you don't have a partner, don't let that stop you from dancing.
Your private lessons are with an individual instructor, if you are a single male,
we will provide you with a well trained lady instructor. If you are a single female,
we will provide you with a well trained gentleman instructor. Group lessons are
taken with other students at your level of dance knowledge and you dance with the
students of the opposite sex. During the practice parties, all of the Arthur Murray
students and instructors are encouraged to dance with all of the other students.
This gives you experience dancing with other partners of many different skill levels.
Dancing is a social activity, you should dance with many people and have a great
time while you are doing so - we can help you achieve this goal.
How much will it cost?
This is a difficult question to answer. What is your personal
goal? What do you want to be able to do with your dancing? How many dances do you
want to learn? Do you want to be able to just go out to some of the clubs and join
in or will you get serious about your dancing and begin to compete? Each of these
factors will influence the cost. The studios generally have an introductory offer
that will allow you to come in and test the water before you make a decision.
Why do I need to take lessons?
Dancing and specifically ballroom dancing, is a combination of
rhythm, movement, lead, follow and choreography specific to each dance. You did
not learn to ride a bike by watching a video tape or learn to drive a car by reading
a book. If you participated in any organized sports activity you probably had a
trained coach that provided you with encouragement, motivation, and assistance.
Dancing is the same. The trained staff at our Arthur Murray Studios can help you
learn so you can dance anywhere with anyone.
What dances can I learn?
What dances would you like to learn? Are you wanting to learn
some Swing, Hustle, and Cha Cha so that you can go out to the clubs? We can help
you. Do you want to learn a Waltz to dance with your new father in-law at your wedding?
We can be of assistance. Do you want to do something that gets you out of the house,
allows you to meet people, get some exercise and have fun? We have plenty of dances
to meet your needs.
